???South Africa???  (Answers: 8)
 South Africa
okay so i just moved from cape town, south africa to canada.now i think that cape town is the best city in the world and i think that ppl that have been there b4 would agree with me!!recently i made a friend here and she was asking me questions about south africa, which i think are very stupid questions. one of them were: "are there cars in SA?"the other one was: "are there houses?" now i told here that yes obviously there are houses and cars, actually i told here that everything that they have in canada is what they have in cape town, except 4 snow of course. anyhow the reason why im asking this question is because i want to know what u think of South Africa. Because some ppl think that it's this big dessert with a whole lot of black ppl running around. oh and thats another thing, why do ppl think that there are only black ppl in South Africa? Im not black and im from there. so i want to know what u think of when you hear "South Africa", anything that pops into your head! thanx
I know what you are saying! I am white South African and overseas people ask me, do you have lions and are you the only white?! I mean come on! It's like any
other place in the world. Because it is situated in Africa I think people just get the idea that we have wild animals and stuff. Also because of the media which
makes us look like we are how other people think. Cape Town (where I stay) and SA I think is the most beautiful country with our mountain and plants! People are so
friendly and we have the most amazing history in SA and museums. I really appreciate that I live here!

I guess a lot of different countries use this so first I'll say I'm American...or African American/Black American whatever.Anyway...I took a African American History course about a year ago, and I asked how the different African countries were doing. I knew a lot of them had lots of civil war and stuff. My teacher told me the whole continent was basically fuked up. I asked him what about South Africa because.....well thats the only country I hear about in Africa(americans may agree with me). He told me South Africa was fuked up also. So to any South Africans or anyone who visited it recently, is the country really doing bad or what? I know one of your movies just got an oscar....yeah....thanks for the replies.
I worked overseas with a guy from South Africa and he basically said that there are big problems there, great tracts of land in dis-repair and large ghettos, where
black and white have to live. Basically because after Apartheid lots of people lost their jobs. Probably the same thing that would happen in the US if all the
Mexican/Hispanics wouldn't do menial labor, and charged us for years of working like that. The tourist/port sections are still OK because of the infusion of cash
they get, but he described it as the country tax section as messed up and they were not able to support their own infrastructure.

Tell me reasons why i should move to South Africa..Is it a good place? How good and how bad is it?What language do they use? I heard they use Dutch? What about English and French? What about the living cost? What is the major religion there? Is it a wealth country?I heard many caucasians live there. Is that true? How many % are caucasian compared to African? What about education in South Africa?I heard that a house should be covered by electric fence or wall. Why?What kind of occupations are there? Are there big worldwide companies? What about the climates?Tell me everything about South Africa, even things i didn't mention above. Thank you.
I'm a South African living in London for the past 3 years, left South Africa because of all the obvious reasons...rape, theft, killing innocent people on a daily
basis, those people feel nothing for other people's lifes. We left there because we wanted a decent living and a future for our kids. As it is for the moment, if
you're skin is white, you have NO opportunity to get a job, you are very lucky if you do get one. Even if you're black and know nothing, they will take you rather
someone that is qualified to do the job, but has a white skin.SAD! The country is BEAUTIFUL, but unfortunately, get run by hooligans. Earlier years called freedom
fighters, now called terrorists, and we called them earlier years terrorists. Languages: English, Afrikaans, and a zillion black languages, e.g. Zulu, Northern
Sotho, Sotho, etc. We have 11 official languages. People mainly speak English /Afrikaans and then blacks have their languages, but most blacks speak English too.
All South African white people do speak English, some prefer to speak only Afrikaans, but can speak English too. When they wish to speak Afrikaans, it is because it
is one of the official languages and we reason that you have to be served in that language too, cos it is one of the official languages....fair?Education...was
excellent...till a few years ago...comparing to the American system...brilliant...British..brilliant...but not any more...is now more or less like the British...but
going down...the drain...with things change every now and then.. as i am a teacher, having contacts with teacher-friends back home, i do know what is going on. And
being a teacher in London, know what i'm talking about too. There are VERY good schools in SA, go for Private schools if you go there and have children that need to
attend schools...private schools are really excellent schools, even a lot of State schools still very good. cos teachers who "know"...still do what they have to do
and don't feel to be "told" by "don't knows"...what to do...specially if they know it is rubbish... Busines: very good, big companies ... all over the place..shops,
brilliant, supermarkets...hyperamas. Malls..do a search for Menlyn shopping centre...you'll be amazed...Durban and Cape Town have HUGE shopping malls...the Pavilion
is only one example in Durban.http://www.thepav.co.za/contentpage.aspx?pageid=3281Wonderpark shopping centre in Pretoria...one of about 5...in the
city...http://www.wonderparkcentre.co.za/Menlyn...another in the East of Pretoriahttp://www.menlynpark.co.za/Centurion in the South...of
Pretoriahttp://www.centurionmall.co.za/and this is only to mention on city...Johannesburg/Sandton/Cape Town/Bloemfontein/Port Elizabeth/Pietermaritzburg etc...
have TONS more...for you to explore...Houses: Yes, you do have to make it safe for yourself and family...it is true...you will get people trying to get in, day or
night...you're lucky if they don't.... we were lucky...but we left to have a future for our kids and not to be "just another killing" some other
time...Occupations...ALL sorts...same as everywhere in the world. NO difference!! And i kid asked me here in London...do you have TEA in your country...do you have
CD's in your country..the answer is YES...we have EVERYTHING!! and even more...Climate...easy to look it up on the internet...opposite as Northern hemisphere...so if
it is winter in Decemeberjanuary ...we have summer in December/January...summer very hot...places get up to 36degrees Celcius...Pretoria usually
23-32....Celcius....32 if it is really hot...winter about 16 and if it is really cold...you will get 11...and less....Wikipedia will help you...or any other
site...you even get places in SA where temps go below 0 in winter!People in SA: VERY friendly, kind, helpful. Neighbours always very friendly when you move in, will
welcome you with tea....if they are real South AFricans...and in some areas people tend to have BBQ's in the street to get together if everyone in the street knows
everyone well for quite a time...BBQ's very popular and people will like to invite you for a BBQ to get to know you...if they have time and not too busy... If you go
and live there. you will have a royal time! South AFrica is a fantastic country, would like to go back once my children are settled in their jobs one day and have
to security of a job. Must also say, the Government of the day need to change, they care too much about their own pockets and not a damn about any other person, even
if they are black, but most blacks look at Mandela as a hero and don't see behind the scene what's going on for real...all will end at the end in a second
Zimbabwe....we are FAST on our way to that.......and 30 years later most politicians will say...as in last week's newspaper in London....So Robert Smith WAS right
---after all....(Daily Mail of March 19th page 17) then it will say....so the South Africans (before 94) WERE right...after all...mark my words....i'm not a
racist...in case you think so...i grew up on a farm, where blacks had their own land to sow their own crop, lovely people, we still visit them today (my sisters)
unfortunately Karlien died (the old mother), but Sarah and Sannie still there, with their children. We're still looking after them by sending them money! They are
like our family. We played football in the dusty roads on the farm! We climb the mountains on the farm together. Sweet memories. If you go there, enjoy it! You will
never experience a country like SA...in the world..i've been to a few now, and SA is still the best, despite what people say about the country.
