Journalism?  (Answers: 2)
 Careers & Employment
When I begin college I want to major in Journalism. What subjects would I have to take in college? And what different types of jobs could I get with a degree in journalism? And is it necessary to get a master's degree too? what is the average salary? is it very difficult to get a job in after college?
As far as I know, the field of journalism is highly competitive. There are so many that take journalism or communications as their major in college it seems. What
can perhaps help one's job prospects is getting as much experience as one can during schooling. Working on the student/university newspaper, if have broadcasting
opportunites there, perhaps working as intern at newspaper or book publishing company can give you a bit of an edge. And if you are unsure whether to major in
journalism just yet, you may be able to declare either 'undecided' for a certain period of time (but please do check with your school counselor) or declare 'liberal
arts' if they do have a liberal arts curriculum.

 Studying Abroad
does anyone study journalism in Harvard,Yale or an other big university???are the studies good?I can't find journalism anywhere in the site!!!I want more informations please!
Harvard does not have a journalism department; however they do offer a journalism degree through its extension school. If you want to become a journalist, you would
need to major in English at either Harvard or Yale and become active with the student newspaper. You could also try to apply to other universities that do offer
journalism as a degree. The George Washington University offers the best program for political journalism with great internships in the area at companies such as
CNN, US News, Newsweek, Washington Post, etc.

 Media & Journalism
Does anybody have information in journalism. Mainly publishing and starting a magazine. It would really help if you gave me information or a website that tells me something about journalism or making a magazine or publishing.
you need a target audience; you need to decide whether you'll be getting paid by advertising, or subscriptions/newstand sales, or both (as most magazines are); you
need to show advertising agencies your target audience and why your magazine should get their advertising $$$; to do that, you'll need at least a sample issue to
show alongside your numbers, but you'll probably need to have published several issues to show them you're not a one-night wonder; you'll need content, preferably
written by people who know something about your target audience, but also by people who have a message/product/service for your target audience; you'll need
relationships with distributors (to get on the magazine rack) or a mailing list, and to get big ad $$ you'll need an audit of your circulation. You'll need a
designer or at least someone to layout the pages. And you'll either need a printer and mailing house willing to give you lots of credit to start with, or a big pot
of cash :-)www.paidcontent.org is interesting for in-depth info about the publishing biz. Also look for Media, Media Week or something with a similar title
(depending where you live) on the newsstand.good luck!

'Leopards' can change their spots
A while ago I bumped into an old friend who once worked here. He'd been a reporter's reporter here one of the best. Journalism wasn't something he did but something he was. He had a fine-tuned "antenna" for picking up lies, deception and duplicity. And he was letting me have it.

Using Your Craft to Relax
A common reason to choose freelancing is to be able to make a living doing work we actually enjoy. In my case, I write. I ve been writing short stories since early childhood and later got heavily into essay writing. The journalism thing came around because it seemed like a decent way to get paid for stringing sentences together. But one of the pitfalls of freelancing is the blurred distinction between work and life. When the desk is only a few feet away at all times, it s tempting
