Copyrights?  (Answers: 2)
 Internet
How does Copyrights work? Images have copyright? can i use any image i want on my website? i mean: "copy-paste" from other websites? or may cause some copyrights problems?
All creative works are automatically copyrighted by their creators as soon as they are produced, be it writing, music, or images. You can only freely use images that
specifically state they are free for anyone to use. Do a search for "free images" to find them. You can not take an image to use simply because it's online. This is
a copyright violation and its creator can take legal action if s/he so chooses.

 Law & Ethics
Hey, I was wondering:Who is it that copyrights music. The FBI? Or are there certain companies, like publishing houses? Or does the music get copyrighted by the studios? Also, for videos + movies, why is there always an FBI warning?
Gray W has the best answer so far. For your own protection, all original music and lyrics should be registered at the Library of Congress, Registrar of
Copyrights. They have forms you can print out for this purpose, but it's not exactly cheap...$45 a submission. But, there's a way around this. If you have
12 songs, you can register all 12 songs for $45 simply by calling it one title...for instance, just the album title, rather then individual titles for each of the 12
songs....for example...."Songs for a Cold Winter Day," or "Songs of the MidWest," or 'Songs of Lost Love," etc...you get the idea. Each of your 12 songs will be
protected this way. Mailing a registered letter to yourself, with the music and lyrics, and never opening the letter, relying on the postmark for proof of origin
date, will not always protect your music. This is an old fallacy that has been around for years, but may not hold up in court. To fully protect your original
work, you must register at the copyright office. Good luck to you.

 Small Business
hi, i would like to ask some questions regarding copyrights, if i were to re-design a pair of jeans, say from Levis, and i wan to re-sell it as a new pair of designed jeans, but it has the brand Levis, will i be in trouble with the law of copyrights?
Well they wouldn't really be "new" would they. You could sell them as "used" or "customized"Just like with custom cars. Everybody knows a Saleen Ford Mustang is
still a Ford, that's been customized by Saleen. Just don't do anything that would be insulting to Levi's, and make it clear that they aren't new, they've been
modified etc. And finally, I'm not a lawyer... if this is a for-real business, check with a lawyer before it becomes your only source of income.

All I Can Say Is
Thank goodness that I'm American. China is the home of censoring it seems, the cradle of its life. Because of a previous protest, which was organized through text messages and chatrooms, the Internet will be censored further. Now if you live in Xiamen, ou must live your official name on all sites. That way it's easier to track you down,

A real shame
It's a shame that it's come to this. Transmeta used to be an up and coming star. I waited suspensefully for their debut. Then, their Crusoe processors didn't perform quite as well as hyped, and sales were scarce. Now, as they sell IP and battle Intel in court, they are relying on an unlikely source for a quick fix. (Not heroin, money.)

Uh-Huh, Sure.
Media Defender (the group behind the miivi.com entrapment fiasco) has said that they didn't realize that anyone knew about the site. Further, they weren't tracking users, etc. Whatever. Why was there a user registration and client software. Even more, why did the domain whois info change. I notice that the site was mysteriously taken down
